Tuesday, April 28, 2026 (Tarzana, California) Announcing a thrilling new tale of treachery and hope on a world shattered by war, set in the continuity of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic novel Beyond Thirty!

In 2137, no one had crossed the forbidden barrier established at thirty degrees East in the Atlantic Ocean for two hundred years—a treaty drawn up due to an unthinkably horrendous war that once devastated the globe. But Lieutenant Jefferson Turck was forced to cross beyond thirty in the aero-submarine Coldwater, and there he discovered a lost continent filled with dark secrets and savage tribes fighting for survival.

Now, award-winning author Jeffrey J. Mariotte breathes life back into Burroughs’ intriguing premise in Beyond Thirty: A World Reborn, a brand-new novella set in an alternate future of the Edgar Rice Burroughs Universe, with stunning cover art and a frontispiece by acclaimed fantasy illustrator Daren Bader!

Land of Forgotten Peril

Having returned to futuristic Pan-America from his adventures on the lost continent, Commander Jefferson Turck must now travel back to the savage remains of Great Britain to help Victory, the rightful Queen of England, retake the throne from a brutal usurper. Only then can England set out on the long road to reclaiming its former glory, following centuries of ravaging war that have thrust it back into the stone age. Turck’s first goal is to reunite with Victory’s barbaric tribe and rally its members to support her rule. But when Turck, Victory, and their small band of companions discover the tribe has been attacked by strange warriors bearing weapons more advanced than even those of Pan-America, the mission turns more complicated—and more dangerous—than anyone could have guessed.

Edgar Rice Burroughs Universe™

A century before the term “crossover” became a buzzword in popular culture, Edgar Rice Burroughs created the first expansive, fully cohesive literary universe. Coexisting in this vast cosmos was a pantheon of immortal heroes and heroines—Tarzan of the Apes®, Jane Porter®, John Carter®, Dejah Thoris®, Carson Napier™, and David Innes™ being only the best known among them. In Burroughs’ 80-plus novels, their epic adventures transported them to the strange and exotic worlds of Barsoom®, Amtor™, Pellucidar®, Caspak™, and Va-nah™, as well as the lost civilizations of Earth and even realms Beyond the Farthest Star™. Now the Edgar Rice Burroughs Universe expands in an all-new series of canonical tales written by today’s talented authors!

Shipping Update: Barsoom #6–8 and Trailblazer

We’ve been working hard on Barsoom books #6–8 in the Edgar Rice Burroughs Authorized Library (The Master Mind of Mars, A Fighting Man of Mars, and Swords of Mars) and Trailblazer: The Autobiography of Tarzan’s Creator, but these are complex books to put together, loaded as they are with, collectively, hundreds of pages of material that we have to research, gather, and scan from our Tarzana archives, each image of which needs to be carefully adjusted and then laid out for publication. We want to make sure they are done right. Consequently, we are running a little behind. As it looks now, we are hoping to begin shipping Barsoom #6–8 by the end of June and to ship Trailblazer in July.

More Than 4,000 Words Restored from Burroughs’ Original Manuscript

Cover art by Sanjulian

Announcing the historic publication of Beyond Thirty: Restored Edition!

In 1915, as debate raged about the aggressions by the Central Powers in Europe, and whether the United States should allow itself to be drawn into the conflict that would eventually be known as World War I, Edgar Rice Burroughs penned a cautionary allegory about the consequences complete isolationism: the novel Beyond Thirty. In this tale, set in the twenty-second century, the nations of North and South America have entirely cut themselves off from contact with Europe, Africa, and Asia following a terrifying global war, drawing a line at 30 degrees East in the Atlantic and 175 degrees West in the Pacific—a barrier that no soul may cross without suffering the utmost punishment and disgrace. No citizen of the futuristic Pan-American Federation knows the fate of the rest of the world in the intervening two hundred years since it was isolated from the Western Hemisphere. But when an accident causes the aero-submarine Coldwater to inadvertently pass beyond the dreaded thirtieth degree to the European continent, its captain and crew find a post-apocalyptic landscape devoid of all signs of civilization, populated by warlike tribes and ferocious wildlife.

Beyond Thirty was first published in the February 1916 issue of All Around Magazine, and was later retitled The Lost Continent when published in paperback by Ace Books in 1963.

But what has remained unknown until now is that more than 4,000 words, including lengthy passages of text, were excised from Edgar Rice Burroughs’ original typescript by the pulp magazine editor—words that have been absent from every edition since the novel’s first publication. Now Beyond Thirty: Restored Edition corrects this egregious error with its historic release, including a new foreword by editor Christopher Paul Carey discussing the context in which the novel was written, Burroughs’ plans for a film adaptation of the tale, and the significance of restored material.

Beyond Thirty: Restored Edition features classic cover art by Sanjulian and a frontispiece by Frank Frazetta, as well as rare and previously unpublished bonus materials from the archives of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., in Tarzana, California.

This important new edition of Beyond Thirty will be available simultaneously in trade paperback, standard hardcover, and a hardcover Collector’s Edition. The book is expected to ship to customers in February 2026.

A Stone Age Future

The year is 2137. Two hundred years ago, a horrendous war raged across the globe, so dreadful the Americas isolated themselves from their enemies in the Old World. They decreed that none should ever again pass beyond thirty degrees East—upon pain of court martial, ignominy, and even death. But when the aero-submarine Coldwater suffers a catastrophic loss of its buoyancy generators and drifts into the forbidden zone, Lieutenant Jefferson Turck finds himself abandoned on the shores of Old Europe. There he discovers Great Britain has been blasted back to the Stone Age, with warring tribes evading the lions that roam wild amid the ruins of battle-ravaged London. But the spirit of the lost continent’s glory days survives in Victory, the dethroned Queen of England, and only Jefferson Turck stands in the way of the savage world that conspires against her.
