Tuesday, June 11, 2024 (Tarzana, California) Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., the company founded by the creator of Tarzan of the Apes® and John Carter of Mars®, is pleased to announce preorders for the first three volumes of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ original Barsoom® Saga in handsome ERB Authorized Library editions, sporting brand-new epic cover art and interior frontispieces by legendary artist Joe Jusko. For a limited time, preorder all three standard hardcover editions and get 20% off, or preorder the new Joe Jusko Legend Editions (see below for more details) from the individual product pages for A Princess of Mars, The Gods of Mars, and The Warlord of Mars. (Please note: The “Buy 3 Books and Get 20% Off” sale does not apply to the Joe Jusko Legend Editions.)

Although Mr. Burroughs is best known for creating his world-famous ape-man, he launched his renowned writing career with the serialization of “Under the Moons of Mars” in the pages of The All-Story magazine from February–July 1912, and many fans of his books consider the Barsoom series to be among his finest and most enduring works. “Under the Moons of Mars” was first published in hardcover in 1917 by A. C. McClurg & Co. under the title A Princess of Mars, and was followed by The Gods of Mars and The Warlord of Mars, both of which first appeared in The All-Story in 1913–14. The three novels make up one of the most highly influential and celebrated trilogies in the history of science fiction, and have left a permanent stamp on popular culture, influencing and inspiring the most prominent figures around the world, including Ray Bradbury, Carl Sagan, Jerry Seigel, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and James Cameron, to name just a few. In the words of Ray Bradbury, “Burroughs is probably the most influential writer in the entire history of the world.” Without Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter of Mars, it is doubtful that Superman, Star Wars, or Avatar would exist for audiences to enjoy, at least not in their recognizable forms.

These stunning hardcover editions feature gorgeous new cover art and frontispieces by Joe Jusko; forewords by venerated fantasy author and SFWA Grand Master Michael Moorcock (Elric, Hawkmoon, The Eternal Champion), bestselling science fiction and fantasy author Kevin J. Anderson (Dune, Star Wars, The X-Files), and NASA astronaut Terrence W. Wilcutt (veteran of four Space Shuttle missions); afterwords by noted ERB scholar Henry G. Franke III; and a bounty of rare and previously unpublished archival materials.

The first three volumes of the Barsoom Saga are expected to ship Fall 2024.

Posted on May 29, 2024

For Immediate Release

Tarzana, CA – The Tarzana International Film Festival (TZIFF) will once again take place at the beautiful Regal Cinemas at The Sherman Oaks Galleria, August 23rd-25th.

2024 marks the third year of the festival with film categories including Action/Adventure, Films by Women, Faith-Based films, LGBTQ+, Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror, Comedy, Documentaries, Foreign films, Screenplays, and more.

The city of Tarzana is named after the most successful and prolific novelist, Edgar Rice Burroughs (ERB) who owned a 550-acre ranch in the San Fernando Valley and created the classic and beloved novels and comic books for the character Tarzan®. Other classic (ERB) characters include John Carter® and and Dejah Thoris®, Princess of Mars®.

In addition to the numerous Tarzan films and 2012’s John Carter, Burroughs’ fantastical science fiction novels At The Earth’s Core™, The Land That Time Forgot®, and The People That Time Forgot™ were all made into popular motion pictures. Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. continues that tradition with several projects in development at Sony/Columbia Pictures and other major studios and production companies.

In 2023, the Tarzana International Film Festival Director and President, Jeff Rector, created the Edgar Rice Burroughs Legacy Award to honor industry screenwriters who encompass the literary talent and spirit of the greatest and most successful writer of all time, Edgar Rice Burroughs.  For the second year, TZIFF has partnered with Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. to present this award at the annual black-tie dinner and Awards Gala at the beautiful Braemar Country Club in the hills overlooking the San Fernando Valley

Evan Spiliotopoulos

This years Legacy Award is being presented to Evan Spiliotopoulos, best known for writing the live-action version of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast starring Kristen Stewart, The Huntsmen: Winter’s War starring Chris Hemsworth, and the action/adventure Hercules starring Dwayne Johnson. Posted on April 16, 2024

Only Two Days Left!
The Kickstarter Campaign Ends on
Thursday, April 18, at 6:59 PM EDT

It’s your last chance to back the Kickstarter campaign for Victory Harben: The Complete Graphic Novel Adventures! The campaign, which ends in only two days, includes Kickstarter-exclusive covers and rewards that will never be offered again.

Tag along on Victory’s adventures in two rip-roaring, epic graphic novels—Victory Harben: Warriors of Zandar and Victory Harben: Ghosts of Omos—as she and her furry companion Hucklebuck fight for life and freedom against the brutal alien Keelars and their mysterious overlord on the strange planet of Zandar!

Don’t miss out on the exciting and highly collectible exclusive rewards, such as the vintage-style “pocketbook” paperback anthology Tales from the Void, which collects for the first time six fantastical tales of the Swords of Eternity Super-Arc, the epic cycle that launched the Edgar Rice Burroughs Universe series. Original to this anthology are a Quantum Prelude, a Quantum Postlude, and five new connecting Quantum Interludes in which Victory Harben gives context to the unfolding story of the Super-Arc that occurs between each story, plus an all-new novelette—“Victory Harben and the Lord of the Veiled Eye” by Christopher Paul Carey—in which the ERB Universe collides head-on with cosmic horror at the edge of the solar system! This special “pocketbook” edition—the style of which will be familiar to collectors from the Edgar Rice Burroughs paperback editions published in the late 1970s and early 1980s—will never be offered again.

For an overview of the Kickstarter campaign, check out this video with writer Mike Wolfer and ERB Universe Creative Director Christopher Paul Carey, which was recorded last week.

Now head on over to Kickstarter and back the campaign for Victory Harben: The Complete Graphic Novel Adventures before it’s too late!

Bonus Novella: “John Carter of Mars®: Swords of the Mind” by Geary Gravel

Wolf Larson Joins ERB, Inc. to Head ERB Entertainment and
Christopher Paul Carey Promoted to Vice President of Publishing

Posted on January 9, 2024

Tarzana, CA (January 9, 2024) Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. (ERB, Inc.), the company that manages and licenses the creative works of novelist Edgar Rice Burroughs, including Tarzan of the Apes® and John Carter of Mars®, is pleased to announce changes to its executive structure in the areas of entertainment and publishing, effective December 23, 2023.

Wolf Larson, Vice President of ERB Entertainment

Wolf Larson is a writer, a producer, and an actor. He graduated with a BA (Hons) in Economics and Statistics from Queens University and received his MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. After graduating, he stayed on at UNLV as a Lecturer in Finance and to work as the Assistant Director at the Center for Business and Economic Research. He moved to Los Angeles and started a calendar and video production company, and shortly thereafter a series of circumstances led to Mr. Larson finding himself in the role as Edgar Rice Burroughs’ legendary ape-man in the Tarzan television series from 1991–1994. The series ran for three seasons with seventy-five episodes.

After his role as Tarzan, he went on to star in TNT’s LA Heat as Detective Chase McDonald. He also had acting roles in Storm Chasers (1998) and in Shakedown (2002). He was a writer and producer for Crash and Byrnes (2000), where he also had a leading role, as well as Just Can’t Get Enough (2002). More recently, he was the CEO of a financial services company but has remained involved in the entertainment industry.

As of December 2023, he has accepted the position of Vice President of ERB Entertainment, the new entertainment division of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., in Tarzana, CA. It will be Mr. Larson’s role to bring these wide-ranging literary creations to market in motion pictures and television series.

Per James Sullos, President of ERB, Inc. “We couldn’t be more excited to have Wolf join us to head up our new entertainment division. We have developed a variety of scripts for movies and TV series, and he has already added to that library. We think 2024 will be a landmark year for our 100-year-old company.”

And Wolf Larson adds: “Ray Bradbury called Edgar Rice Burroughs ‘probably the most influential writer in the entire history of the world.’ Burroughs’ imagination is certainly on display in many of our best-known movies. Celebrated for Tarzan, what most people don’t know is that he wrote over eighty books in his lifetime in a variety of genres—and that doesn’t include his short stories. The ERB Universe is vast, and many parts are still unexplored. Our goal is to change that.”

Christopher Paul Carey, Vice President of Publishing

Christopher Paul Carey holds a master’s degree in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University. He was integral to the success of Paizo Inc., publisher of the bestselling Pathfinder and Starfinder roleplaying games, where for a decade he was Senior Editor and worked on the RPG line of gaming books and products, as well as the Pathfinder Tales and Planet Stories fiction imprints. Mr. Carey has edited the works of both classic and contemporary science fiction and fantasy authors, including more than ninety novels, anthologies, and collections for a variety of presses. He is the critically acclaimed author of six novels and standalone novellas, a nonfiction collection, and numerous short stories and comic book scripts, including several authorized works set in the worlds of Edgar Rice Burroughs.

As of February 2024, Mr. Carey will celebrate his fifth anniversary with Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., where has served as Director of Publishing. Now he has been promoted to the position of Vice President of Publishing. Mr. Carey has overseen the rebirth of the company’s publishing program and has implemented several key initiatives that have generated much attention and success for ERB, Inc.’s publications. These include the Edgar Rice Burroughs Authorized Library, a monumental series presenting the complete literary works of the Master of Adventure in uniform hardcover editions, supplemented by forewords and afterwords by renowned authorities and luminaries, and bonus materials mined from the company’s extensive archives in Tarzana, California. He also serves as Creative Director of the Edgar Rice Burroughs Universe, a groundbreaking series of novels, short fiction, comic books, and graphic novels by today’s talented authors and creatives, all faithfully expanding on the celebrated canon of Edgar Rice Burroughs and set within the same continuity.

“Christopher has taken our publishing program to a whole new level in the last five years,” says James Sullos, President of ERB, Inc. “He has given substance to our program as we accelerate our publishing capacity. This promotion is so very much deserved.”

Christopher Paul Carey adds, “It has been an honor beyond measure to work with the unparalleled literary legacy of Edgar Rice Burroughs. He defined science fiction, fantasy, and adventure fiction in the twentieth century, influencing and inspiring generations of writers, artists, scientists, and other notable figures of yesterday and today, and putting his permanent stamp on our popular culture. I feel strongly that ERB’s own dedication to creating timeless heroes, imaginative world building, and quality storytelling is the key to success as we continue to expand the reach and scope of our publishing program into the future.”
