This thrilling new chapter in the ERB Universe is written by fan-favorite author Mike Wolfer, with stunning wraparound cover art by acclaimed fantasy illustrator Daren Bader.

About the Authors

Mike Wolfer has been a professional writer and illustrator for more than thirty years. He is the author of two Edgar Rice Burroughs Universe prose novellas (“Victory Harben: Clash on Caspak” and “Rescue the Farthest Star: Escape on Zandar”), and has been a key talent working on the canonical ERB Universe comic books, including Jane Porter, Victory Harben, Pellucidar, The Land That Time Forgot, The Monster Men, and The Moon Maid. Best known for his Widow series, Wolfer is also the creator of the Daughters of the Dark Oracle franchise, and has worked on numerous licensed properties.

Christopher Paul Carey is the author of several books, including the ERB Universe novel Victory Harben: Fires of Halos; Swords Against the Moon Men, an authorized sequel to Edgar Rice Burroughs’ The Moon Maid ; Exiles of Kho; The Song of Kwasin (with Philip José Farmer); Hadon, King of Opar ; and Blood of Ancient Opar . He has also written comic books featuring Burroughs’ characters such as Tarzan, Dejah Thoris, Carson of Venus, Jason Gridley, and Gretchen von Harben. Carey is Vice President of Publishing and Creative Director of the ERB Universe at Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., the company founded by Mr. Burroughs in 1923. He lives in Southern California.

Although Mr. Burroughs is best known for creating his world-famous ape-man, he launched his renowned writing career with the serialization of “Under the Moons of Mars” in the pages of The All-Story magazine from February–July 1912, and many fans of his books consider the Barsoom series to be among his finest and most enduring works. “Under the Moons of Mars” was first published in hardcover in 1917 by A. Tarzana International Film Festival Honors Screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos with the Edgar Rice Burroughs® Legacy Award

Tarzana, CA – The Tarzana International Film Festival (TZIFF) will once again take place at the beautiful Regal Cinemas at The Sherman Oaks Galleria, August 23rd-25th.

2024 marks the third year of the festival with film categories including Action/Adventure, Films by Women, Faith-Based films, LGBTQ+, Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror, Comedy, Documentaries, Foreign films, Screenplays, and more.

The city of Tarzana is named after the most successful and prolific novelist, Edgar Rice Burroughs (ERB) who owned a 550-acre ranch in the San Fernando Valley and created the classic and beloved novels and comic books for the character Tarzan®. Other classic (ERB) characters include John Carter® and and Dejah Thoris®, Princess of Mars®.

In addition to the numerous Tarzan films and 2012’s John Carter, Burroughs’ fantastical science fiction novels At The Earth’s Core™, The Land That Time Forgot®, and The People That Time Forgot™ were all made into popular motion pictures. Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. continues that tradition with several projects in development at Sony/Columbia Pictures and other major studios and production companies.

In 2023, the Tarzana International Film Festival Director and President, Jeff Rector, created the Edgar Rice Burroughs Legacy Award to honor industry screenwriters who encompass the literary talent and spirit of the greatest and most successful writer of all time, Edgar Rice Burroughs.  For the second year, TZIFF has partnered with Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. to present this award at the annual black-tie dinner and Awards Gala at the beautiful Braemar Country Club in the hills overlooking the San Fernando Valley. 

Evan Spiliotopoulos

This years Legacy Award is being presented to Evan Spiliotopoulos, best known for writing the live-action version of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast starring Kristen Stewart, The Huntsmen: Winter’s War starring Chris Hemsworth, and the action/adventure Hercules starring Dwayne Johnson. Since then, Spiliotopoulos moved on to write and direct his first feature film, The Unholy. Most recently, Spiliotopoulos wrote the successful supernatural thriller The Pope’s Exorcist starring Academy Award winner Russel Crowe, with a sequel currently in production.

Spiliotopoulos says, “Edgar Rice Burroughs is the reigning King of adventure. Through works like ‘Tarzan’ and ‘John Carter of Mars,’ he transported readers to distant realms and inspired countless writers like myself to unleash our own imaginations. I am deeply honored and humbled to be receiving the Edgar Rice Burroughs Legacy award this year.” Festival Founder Lori Morrissey said, “We are really pleased and excited to be presenting and honoring Evan, an amazing screenwriter and visionary in his own right!”

About the Authors

Ann Tonsor Zeddies first encountered the ERB Universe as a child, when an old professor who lived down the street allowed her to choose a volume from his shelves. She chose Tarzan of the Apes. Later, she read the adventures of John Carter aloud to her young son. She is the author of six science fiction novels, two of which were Philip K. Dick Award nominees. Her short fiction includes stories in The Ultimate Silver Surfer and Magic in the Mirrorstone. She lives in Michigan with her husband, near the shores of an inland sea.

Geary Gravel is the author of the Edgar Rice Burroughs Universe novel John Carter of Mars: Gods of the Forgotten; the Philip K. Dick Award finalist The Alchemists; and the novels The Pathfinders, A Key for the Nonesuch, and Return of the Breakneck Boys. He has written several novelizations, including Hook, based on the Steven Spielberg film, and Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, based on the animated movie. He lives in western Massachusetts, where he worked for decades as a Sign Language Interpreter for the Deaf.

About the Cover Artist

An award-winning illustrator, Douglas Klauba was born and raised in Chicago, and is a graduate of the American Academy of Art. His paintings have been included in the art annuals of Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, the Society of Illustrators, and Imagine FX magazine.
